Ciencia’09-A Report

Come awaken your dormant capabilities, display your dynamic energy and feel the adrenaline rush of the golden opportunity. With this motive began Ciencia’09. As two glorious days wafted past, the fourth arrow from Ciencia’s quiver found bull’s eye yet again. It was on 20th February that CVR’s National Level technical Symposium took off with a breathtaking inaugural ceremony, followed by registrations for a gamut of events that were held later. We had about 1985 registrations for various events that were conducted during the two day technical fest. We had an inflow of about 250 papers of which 80 papers were selected for presentation. The event Robotika received a great response with about 200 registrations. We also had many participants registering themselves for other events like gaming, workshops, working model displays and many more. Our official website had about 700 views per day and the number of hits increased to 1000 as compared to 800 the previous year. Spot registrations for the technical events of various departments had huge turnouts.
On the first day we had Dr.Murali Padmanabhan, Head Learning Technology Solutions group, L&D, TCS, Hyderabad as our chief guest who emphasized on the importance of keeping abreast with the new and emerging technologies. Our guest of honor was Prof.P.SubbaReddy, Director, University Computer Centre, Osmania University, Hyderabad who took us on a drive that stressed on the acquisition of knowledge.
With the best minds coming together to battle it out, Ciencia’09 had brought in a plethora of events and activities spread over the two days, to enrapture and captivate your minds. Ciencia’09 had provided zealous students with an opportunity to take part in a myriad number of events meant to enhance the skills and knowledge of the participants thereby providing them with an enriching experience. We had a range of events starting from the very technically inclined Electro-Whiz” and “Technical Quiz”. These events were challenging and a grilling test to check how technically bent your mind was. Visualization and elucidation of what lies ahead kept technocrats busy with the technical paper presentations. Digital Design and Fix N Win were for those who knew the what and how of hardware in open and predefined formats. Robotika, the robotics competition, riding high on emotional outbursts kept participants involved like never before. The VLSI and Grid Computing workshops provided the avid learners an enriching experience. Code warriors had their hands full with Java Debugging, C Programming and Tweak XP-the programming challenges. Working model display provided a platform for the participants to portray their creativity. Skirmish-The gaming competition provided the excitement, so very essential to the mind. The spot events tested their presence of mind and spontaneity in an electrifying atmosphere and stimulated their thought process. The art gallery had showcased the artistic side of the CVR’ites. The food stalls had the people mouth watering asking for more and more.
Day 2 of Ciencia’09 started off with participants bustling in to put up their best in the finals of various events. It was as much filled with fervor and excitement as the first day. The most anticipated event for the second day was the Valedictory Function. Dr.R.Govindarajulu, Professor, IIIT-Hyderabad was our Chief Guest for the function. He shared his views about the present Indian scenario and its future. He also gave valuable suggestions and advice to the students. He then congratulated the winners of the various events and awarded them with excellent cash prizes.
Thus Ciencia’09 was a rightful product of the relentless efforts, perseverance and dedication of the students, under the effective guidance of all the visionaries who worked round the clock. Their contribution has been paramount in making Ciencia a bench mark for the fests to come.
